College Football's Biggest Week

Dec. 1, 2009 / By Danny Sheridan

And here it is, one of the best weeks College Football has to offer. There are some huge Pac-10 games and Conference Championships galore!

Here's my take on three key matchups.

The Oregon State Beavers at the Oregon Ducks in what is essentially the Pac-10 championship, with the Ducks 10-point favorites in NCAA Football Betting at Sportsbook.com (Thursday, 9 pm ET, ESPN).

This game is called "The Civil War" — yeah, something about that just sounds intense. And it's one of my favorite games to catch all season. When Arizona failed to hold off the Ducks in overtimes two weekends ago, it set up for a Pac-10 title game against two of the bitterest rivals. No. 16 Oregon State @ No. 8 Oregon, for a trip to the Rose Bowl. Fantastic.

The home team has won 8 of the last 10, but the road team has taken the last two. Great offenses collide in Oregon!

The game everyone is talking about — and for good reason — the No. 1 Florida Gators against the No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide, with the Gators favored by 5.5 (Saturday, 4 pm ET, CBS).

I think Rankings are a joke, they mean so much and should be respected so little, but seeing #1 against #2 this late in the season, with a shot at the National Championship on the line, for an SEC Conference Championship, starring two Heisman hopefuls and probably one of the best college quarterbacks to ever play in Tim Tebow. I'm loving it. I don't know if I'll leave my couch on Saturday.

These two both went undefeated through the SEC and it was a down to the wire game last year with Florida winning. It's played at a neutral site.

And the Texas Longhorns are at the Nebraska Cornhuskers, with the Longhorns favored by 13.5 (Saturday, 8 pm ET, ABC).

It's not #1 vs #2 and it's not the famed SEC, but it should be one heck of a game. Texas has a better offense but Nebraska boasts a better defense. The Cornhuskers are about 5 points away from being a one-loss team. Texas has one chance at a title shot against the SEC winner. This is an all or nothing game for them.
