Cowboys, Giants both desperately need win Sunday

Dec. 3, 2009 / By Danny Sheridan

It should be one heck of a game when the Dallas Cowboys visit the New York Giants on Sunday for a battle of fierce NFC East rivals (4:15 pm ET, FOX).

The Cowboys are hoping to get one step closer to winning the NFC East title, while the Giants are just hoping to make the NFL Playoffs for the fifth straight season.

Something's gonna give on Sunday.

Both have had quarterback problems this season. The Cowboys' Tony Romo has been consistently inconsistent, while the Giants' Eli Manning has struggled with two different injuries to his right foot.

The Cowboys will be trying to avenge a 33-31 loss to the Giants in their first game at the new Cowboys Stadium on Sept. 20.

Dallas (8-3 SU) leads the Philadelphia Eagles (7-4 SU) by one game and New York by two (6-5 SU) in the division.

The Cowboys are slight 1½-point favorites in NFL Odds at Sportsbook.com.

Both teams have won five of the past 10 head-to-head battles, while the Giants have the upper hand against the spread (6-3-1 ATS). Also, Manning and his Giants can take some comfort in the fact they are 4-1 ATS in the past five meetings at home.

In their last action, the Cowboys defeated the Oakland Raiders 24-7 as Romo threw for 309 yards with a pair of touchdowns. The Cowboys covered the 13.5-point spread.

Miles Austin caught seven passes for 145 yards with a TD, and Felix Jones ran for 68 yards and a touchdown in that win.

The Giants, meanwhile, lost 26-6 to the Denver Broncos on Thanksgiving Day as a 5-point favorite.

Lawrence Tynes booted field goals of 39 and 52 yards in that loss.
