Two outstanding quarterbacks match-up on Sunday in the AFC
Championship game as Peyton Manning and the Colts host Tom
Brady and the Patriots. Manning has been the better regular
season quarterback but Brady has been flawless in the postseason.
The good news for the Colts is that they get the Patriots
in the RCA Dome. Early betting from SBG
Global shows that the gambling public has little
faith in Brady’s flawlessness, with most money taking
the Colt’s minus the points.
Twice in the last three years New England has ended Indianapolis'
season. New England had won six straight and 10 of 12 against
the Colts. Many people believe that this is the season that
the Colts end the Patriots run. The pressure is on Peyton
Manning but this could be his year. "I think it's the
same thing at stake for him as there is for all of us,"
head coach Tony Dungy said. "We've got a group that hasn't
been to the Super Bowl. They'd like to get there. We're one
step away. Everyone in the locker room wants to do that and
Peyton's no different. It's not make-or-break for them and
it's not make-or-break for him. We'd just like to get there
and do it."
The Patriots may have the past reputation for greatness but
most people believe they are lucky to still be alive. The
Chargers had them in their sights last week only to blow it
in the last few minutes. The Patriots are 12-1 in the playoffs
with Brady and Belichick. Brady has been superb through the
years although he did throw three interceptions last week
and has looked less than stellar at times. He does have an
8-1 road record in the playoffs though. "There's no quarterback
I'd rather have," Belichick said. "Nobody's going
to play a perfect game." One player the Patriots don’t
have that was huge in their past playoff success is kicker
Adam Vinatieri. He now kicks for the Colts and scored all
of their points in last week’s win against the Ravens
kicking five field goals. "When he walks out there, you
always feel like he's not going to miss," said Colts
coach Tony Dungy. He's never missed in the RCA Dome, going
15-for-15 this season and 26-for-26 in his career.
Indianapolis
is a 3 point favorite with a total of 47.5 at SBG Global.
Indianapolis is a perfect 9-0 at home this season but they
are facing the history of having to defeat the Patriots. New
England is 5-0 in AFC championship games since the merger
in 1970. The Colts are 0-3 in title games since 1970.
The Patriots are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games as a road
underdog. The Patriots are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games in
January. The Patriots are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 playoff
games. The Patriots are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 meetings in
Indianapolis. The Underdog is 9-2-1 ATS in the last 12 meetings
between the two teams.
The Colts are 5-2 ATS vs. a team with a winning record. The
Colts are 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 games as a favorite of
3 points or less.
The Under is 5-1 in the Patriots last 6 playoff games as
an underdog. The Over is 9-3 in the Patriots last 12 games
as a road underdog. The Under is 7-3 in the Patriots last
10 games in January. The Under is 5-0 in the Colts last 5
games in January. The Under is 10-4 in the Colts last 14 games
as a home favorite.
